Poems by Charlotte G Mair

Fields of Love

A thousand gifts are brought to mind
by your words so warmly spoken _ Alabam
Tender _ warm, and well of heart

Treasures in this lady _ lay at depths unfathomed
Hidden, golden songs of heart and
uncharted regions
Awaiting the explorer _ who dares light a candle

Now, at heart’s reach _ these regions lay at bay

Oh yes, a lady in waiting always, in all ways
and to you I hand the key

Open with care; for there within is a pouring to be received

Warmth, comfort, care
To be cradled in ones arms, protected from the world
is my means of restitution from such a world of hate

How I long for this Alabam

At moonlight’s gaze, thoughts turn to you
On southern winds, I fly to you
In fields, I am the dandelion fairy, dancing in the breeze

I am the air you breathe _ and the shadow
who stays at side, in lonely times;
the scent of lavender that brushes by you in a room

I am Charlotte’s heart and soul _ metamorphosing
The chameleon, the rose, the chirping bird upon the lea
A broken wing have I, but it will mend
For there are callings to tend to in the midst

At night’s call, I will draw my sheets of linen,
to cuddle me from harms way
And on the nights that hold no moon
I will cherish this sacred ground within my mind
Until the day _ when your eyes meet mine

Sweet Alabam

My Best Friend :

   Bossy Bear Chow Chow

I can still see his big moon face
peaking round the corner

That look of devil may care
in the whites of his eyes
from within his coal black fur
as he runs up to me
and then bows
Almost as if in slow motion

The grandest, most beautiful soul
this woman has come to know

Honoured and respected by all other canines
He was a king, in all his right
So proud, so strong in will
and in perpetual, unconditional love

I bow my head and honour you
my best friend
Now to remain inside me for life
Till darkness falls
A fond farewell to you,

My Buddy

Alabama Dreamer

Oh yes __ Alabama, Alabama __ a magical name
In dreams of willow, weeping cross-creek
Youthful wishes of the south

Down a staircase,
A young lady meanders
Spray of yellow roses in her hair;
White, full gown, with satin sashes;
Glowing_alabaster skin, auburn hair; tied back in ringlets;
Cradling her bridal bouquet ever so gently, in gloved hands

Camellias __ magnolias burst their bloom
A young man waits at altar
And I am there somehow in life? but how?

How can this be? _ like I once stood before him

Oh, the magic of the south, in mystical poetic form
Truly, this heart has lived the south

I feel, I breathe its view;
from a million light years away.

Be Free

shall we say
that love has flown today
and for once
we’ll both agree?

sadly spoken
… no one holds
monopoly
on loss

…yes!
many grieve
without solace
to a world undone
but there’s still a flickering
comfort for two
in parting

we are
tendered God’s hand
as our last fleeting breath
of hope, borne of loss
carries us wayward

though
the loner must run
free from the pack
be it only kind wishes
to follow
soft footsteps by sedge
and through tender reeds
man of flight

Illusive Love

I am the butterfly, that migrates,
The gypsy who can't be tamed; never finding home.
The bolting deer, startled by the light
and such a gazer of stars on moon-less nights.

When darkness casts its charms, that's where you'll find me.

Rolling waves upon the shores
and rocks that crash against the ever changing artwork,
in the sand and in the hands of time I linger;
as a ghost to roam these hills and vales eternal.

Many try to understand her ways
and fail to see her riches in the brawny depths, within the castle fold;
for fear of sinking into depths of true, unceasing, heartfelt song
The one she sings to echo eternal
